(Or at least this is what I think they do) Know someone that only watches anime and pretty much craps on any other animated shows from any other country (mostly Americas since thats where we live) only plays games that originate form Japan and has Japanese voice acting as an option and refuses to play anything else, gets unreasonably angry when someone calls anime cartoons (Thats a story in itself!) or gets that angry when someone makes fanart of a character they like in a romance with someone they don't want or art where that character dies and you will never hear the end of it from them. Then there are the others who people classify as Weebs. I have 4 1/2 friends I hang out with on a regular bases and we all watch anime and read manga, several we all watch, several we watch that others in the group don't really like, and we have a jolly time. Its not as bad as most people on the internet makes it seem. For some reason the Japanese liked the term (probably as they wanted a friendlier label than otaku) and acquired it. It was invented here in England meaning Not in Education, Employment or Training. Otaku are often perceived as being fat perverts, rapists, many other bad things.īecause of their self-loathing many Japanese dropouts succumb to becoming a hikkikomori which is a NEET to the nth degree.Īlso, NEET isn't a Japanese term. People who fail school receive much worse judgement than here. There's an expectation of workaholism in Japan. However, the perception stretches further than that. Literally, it is Japanese for house, so it does mean a recluse indeed. Otaku of course is the earlier term and is more offensive than NEET. the western equivalent term would be "basement dwellers" Usually living with parents, holding no job, and almost never leaving there room. NEETs are people that shut themselves away from society. A better term that fits the definition given is, NEET. Postat inițial de Aika star:The definition for otaku is off. Often they try to speak Japanese but only using what they learn from anime Postat inițial de GwenRose:Weeaboo- Someone who thinks they should have been born in japan and or try to copy their culture. It doesn't make them bad people as they might come across as aloof at times it's just a part of the disorder. I think autistic people have a tendency to be mad about a certain thing but have little interest in nearly everything else and they'll often put their obsession before other people, lacking empathy for instance. Thankfully I don't need to go all the way to Japan for those. I do like their crazy creations though, like Ramune soda or those weird Kit-Kat variations. It would probably rank lower down the top ten "countries to visit" list. More about a niche anime than anime as a whole though, nor do I care much for Japan. Although I'm not autistic and I've had a pretty big obsession. I've known autistic people and they certainly fit the bill there. It's an illness that just happens to fit within the "I don't like most real people, so fantasy makes me happier" category. Please don't misunderstand my use of "autistic." I was referring to actual autistic people who happen to be fans of anime. I do dislike over-the-top anime fans (which I mockingly call "weeaboos", I'm no saint) but I wouldn't go as far as to call them "autistic" and "cancer" just for being human, and having their own tastes. Really loving the discussion on this! But uh can anyone gift me the ease? Other Japanese words which have been confused by Westerners also include but not limited to: Anime, Manga, etc " If you think about it, it's not really good to be called a guru if it means you are a total loser who can't socialize with other people except through the Internet. In the Western culture, people confuse otaku to be something positive like "Guru". Usually an otaku person has nothing better to do with their life so they pass the time by watching anime, playing videogames, surfing the internet (otaku is also used to refer to a nerd/hacker/programmer). Otaku(which i think most people are) - from urban dictionary "Otaku is extremely negative in meaning as it is used to refer to someone who stays at home all the time and doesn't have a life (no social life, no love life, etc) Weeaboo- Someone who thinks they should have been born in japan and or try to copy their culture.
